What is IFC Formal Recruitment?
IFC Formal Recruitment is the structured process through which students can meet and learn about all 18 LSU fraternities. It gives prospective members the opportunity to experience different chapter cultures, meet current members, and ultimately find the fraternity that is the best fit for them. Each chapter offers a unique experience, but all are committed to developing men through brotherhood, leadership, academics, service, and involvement.
Do I have to know someone in a fraternity to participate in recruitment?
No. You do not need to know anyone in a fraternity before recruitment. Formal Recruitment is designed to give students the opportunity to meet members from all 18 chapters and build relationships throughout the process. Many students enter recruitment without existing connections and go on to find a strong sense of belonging within their chapter. Come in with an open mind and allow yourself to experience what each chapter has to offer.
How do I know which fraternity is right for me?
There is no single “best” fraternity, there is a fraternity that is the best fit for you. Every chapter has its own personality, traditions, size, values, and member experience. Throughout recruitment, focus on finding men you genuinely connect with and a chapter where you feel comfortable being yourself. Take the time to ask questions, experience different chapter environments, and choose a community that aligns with the person you want to become at LSU.
How does IFC academics and personal growth?
Success in the classroom is an important part of the LSU fraternity experience. Chapters provide resources such as study hours, peer tutoring, academic accountability, and mentorship to help members succeed. Philanthropy is a major part of the LSU fraternity experience. Collectively, our 18 IFC chapters contribute thousands of hours of community service and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in support of charitable organizations and philanthropic causes. Beyond fundraising, members volunteer throughout the Baton Rouge community and participate in service initiatives throughout the year.
